Baltimore Mayoral Candidate Bob Wallace Earns Spot on Ballot, Names T.J. Smith as Campaign Advisor

Independent Baltimore City Mayoral Candidate Bob Wallace today announced that he has officially secured a spot on the ballot in the November General Election, facing off against Democratic nominee Brandon Scott and Republican nominee Shannon Wright.

The independent candidate collected over 8,000 signatures from registered voters in Baltimore City, surpassing the necessary signatures requirement to be placed on the ballot. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Maryland Board of Elections recently reduced the number of petition signatures needed from 1% of registered city voters (4,000 signatures) to 0.5% of registered city voters (2,000 signatures).

“In light of the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve had amazing public support in obtaining the signatures needed to secure a spot on the ballot,” Wallace said. “This campaign is about challenging the status quo and bringing real change to Baltimore without any divisive partisan rhetoric. Having collected four times the number of signatures required is further evidence of how excited Baltimoreans are about our campaign to bring change to the city.”

“I invite everyone who believes in a better future for our city to support this movement.”

Joining Wallace’s campaign team as campaign advisor is former Baltimore City mayoral candidate T.J. Smith.

Prior to joining the Wallace for Mayor campaign, Smith was most recently a leading Democratic candidate for Baltimore City mayor in the June primary. As an experienced campaign professional in Baltimore City, Smith will focus on leading the Bob Wallace for Mayor grassroots efforts and building a grassroots team to reach voters across the city.

“Like many Baltimoreans, I love our city, but I have also been disheartened with the continued level of violence and opportunities here,” Smith said. “I made a decision to run for mayor after careful consideration. I believed that we needed an outside-of-politics perspective to introduce fresh ideas to help move the city forward. While I did not prevail in my bid during the primary, this has not deterred me from wanting what is best for Baltimore.”

Smith previously served as press secretary for Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Jr., chief spokesman for the Baltimore Police Department and as an Anne Arundel County Police commander.

“I know that we need a compassionate, knowledgeable, ‘ready on day one,’ job creator to help immediately address the longstanding problems that exist in our city,” Smith said. “I enthusiastically endorse Bob Wallace for Mayor of Baltimore. We need a pragmatic, non-partisan, leader who has a track record of success for us to realize our full potential. I am encouraged and excited by his message and plan to Reset, Reform, Reimagine Baltimore.”

“I am thankful to have T.J. join our talented and dedicated team because we share the same values and commitment to our beloved city,” Bob Wallace said. “His experience in grassroots campaigning, voter outreach, and his profound knowledge of the inner workings of the city will be an invaluable asset to our campaign as we look ahead to the November general election.”

Wallace is the only unaffiliated candidate in recent history to secure a spot on the ballot in the Baltimore City general election.
