On, Thursday, December 26, 2019, the Baltimore Community Foundation announced $18,000 in grants to fund important education work from the Rosenberg Martin Greenberg LLP Continuing Fund of the Baltimore Community Foundation.

In 2012, Rosenberg Martin Greenberg LLP (RMG) established the Rosenberg Martin Greenberg LLP Continuing Fund of the Baltimore Community Foundation in celebration of its 25th anniversary. It supports organizations committed to education reform in Baltimore City. It is named a “continuing fund” because it will be a permanent charitable endowment at the Baltimore Community Foundation, continuing to grow and distribute grants for generations to come.

Past grant recipients for funding include Playworks, Maryland Center for Construction Education, Innovation Inc. (MCCEI) and AthLife Foundation.

This year’s grant will be shared by three recipients: City College Speech & Debate Team, Next One Up, and The Ingenuity Project. All three organizations work with Baltimore City youth and are committed to education reform through improving communication skills, academics, athletic and social development, and STEM education.

The grant to City College Speech & Debate Team is given in memory of Gilbert (Gil) Sandler who passed away in December 2019.

"The grant committee is excited to provide three separate organizations with support of their respective missions, which are supporting essential skills for Baltimore school children. It’s also an honor to give the City College Speech & Debate team their grant in honor of a true Baltimore legend.”

The premier competitive speech and debate program in Baltimore metro area offers training for 60 students in a variety of disciplines and the opportunity for national competition.

Next One Up provides long-term mentoring relationships, as well as coaching on the field and in the classroom for high-risk City young men from age 13 to 24. Using sports as the “hook,” Next One Up works to ensure that its over 100 student athletes are able to graduate from high school with a clear plan to college and a career or vocation.

Ingenuity is the City Schools’ exemplary advanced math, science and research program serving 750 6-12th grade students in 4 middle schools and at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Its signature high school Practicum internship is expanding beyond research labs.
