Event to raise $100,000 in critical program funding for vulnerable individuals

VOA of Chesapeake & Carolinas will host the 10th annual Harvest for Hope to benefit the organization’s health and human services programs. The event brings together more than 250 guests from across the public and private sectors who are passionate about empowering the lives of those in need.

This year’s goal is to raise $100,000 to support VOA’s programs that empower self-sufficiency and inspire hope among the vulnerable individuals, families and veterans served throughout the Commonwealth and the District of Columbia.

A networking hour with key decision-makers from the government, philanthropic and business sectors is followed by a buffet-style lunch, silent & live auctions, inspiring stories, musical performances and more.

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas, Inc. is a faith-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to empower self-reliance and inspire hope. As a church without walls, the organization does this through personalized housing, ministry, health, and human services that benefit vulnerable individuals, their families and the community.

The organization has more than 30 programs throughout Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia serving the homeless, individuals with mental illness, individuals with intellectual disabilities, those in need of affordable housing, those in need of supportive services, those recovering from substance abuse addictions and those involved in community corrections.

VOAC has over 600 staff members and more than 2,000 volunteers. The organization helps thousands of individuals every year from Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., and the Carolinas.

In FY2019, VOA made a measurable community impact, serving more 8,300 people in need across Virginia and DC including:

  • Opened Four Oaks Services Center, in partnership with the City of Newport News, to provide drop in and wrap around services to more than 50 individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
  • Shelter services to more than 660 people in need through the Arlington Community Shelter and Loudoun Homeless Services Center.
  • Assisting more than 540 individuals and families avoid homelessness through homeless prevention, diversion and rapid rehousing programs in Virginia.
  • Supportive services to more than 250 veterans and their families.
  • Psychiatric and residential rehabilitation services to more that 1,300 adults with living and behavioral health issues across DC.
  • Supportive housing for more than 110 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Northern Virginia and DC
