A contrite, upbeat Michael Pierce publicly apologized to his teammates and said he has put the embarrassment of minicamp behind him as the fourth-year defensive lineman prepares for a 2019 season that is critical to his long-term future.
Pierce took part in the Ravens' first training camp practice of the season July 25, his first action on the field this year. Pierce sat out the team's voluntary OTA workouts this spring, then was told by head coach John Harbaugh to leave the field on the first day of the team's mandatory minicamp in June because Pierce reported overweight and out of shape.
Throughout the next five weeks, Pierce said he dropped more than 20 pounds, and he passed the Ravens' rigorous conditioning test and was a full participant in the team's first training camp workout.
