Alion to Relocate Global Headquarters to Boro Tower in Tysons

1/22/19

The defense and national security engineering solutions company will lease 14,000 square feet of Boro Tower, the area’s premier new office tower now under construction near the Greensboro Metro station

The Meridian Group and Rockefeller Group announced today that Alion Science and Technology is moving its headquarters to Boro Tower, the area’s premier new office tower under construction in Tysons Corner, Va.

“We’re thrilled to announce the addition of Alion to Boro Tower,” said Tom Boylan, Vice President of The Meridian Group, which is developing The Boro. “As the preeminent office building in Tysons, Boro Tower continues to attract a diverse and balanced mix of successful, market-leading companies. The Boro is becoming the perfect place to experience it all. We are looking forward to welcoming Alion and opening The Boro in 2019.”

“Tysons Corner, and the National Capital Region, have been home to Alion for many years, and it only made sense for us to continue to commit to the community through the relocation of our headquarters operation,” said Steve Schorer, CEO of Alion. “This area has much to offer our business and our employees. We look forward to all the great features of our new offices, and the amenities of the Boro community.”

“Alion Science and Technology strongly complements the growing list of tenants who have chosen Boro Tower,” said Hilary Allard Goldfarb, Senior Vice President and Regional Development Officer for Rockefeller Group’s Mid-Atlantic Region. “Companies well poised for growth recognize the workplace advantages delivered in transit-rich, amenity-driven locations. Welcoming Alion, we are very pleased with the caliber and the depth of our tenant roster.”

Alion joins several other prominent companies and firms that have selected Boro Tower for their new offices:

KPMG, one of the world’s Big Four accounting firms, completed a lease for one of the largest private-sector leases in the greater Washington, D.C., region earlier this year. The firm will occupy up to seven floors of the Tower.

TEGNA, comprised of a dynamic portfolio of media and digital businesses, is moving its headquarters to the top two floors of Boro Tower. The company is leasing approximately 46,000 square feet on the 19th and 20th floors.

Law firm Hogan Lovells will lease 44,500 square feet starting in June 2019. The firm will occupy the tower’s entire 17thfloor and the majority of its 16thfloor.

Law firm Womble Bond Dickinson will lease 24,239 square feet beginning in mid-2019. The firm is moving its Tysons office to Boro Tower and will occupy the entire 15thfloor.

Preleasing is more than 70 percent ahead of the tower’s completion, with approximately 123,000 square feet remaining available for lease.

Meridian and Rockefeller Group are co-developing Boro Tower, with Skanska constructing the state-of-the-art building. From its vantage on “The Hill” – the highest ground elevation in Fairfax County – the 20-story Tower offers panoramic views from the Blue Ridge Mountains to downtown Washington, D.C.

The Gensler-designed building features a shimmering glass curtain wall, accented by a modern, white-glazed terra cotta. Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, Boro Tower also features 9- to 10-foot ceilings and ideally sized floorplates that minimize columns and maximize daylight and views. The Tower will be topped by an expansive rooftop terrace.

Working with The Meridian Group and Rockefeller Group to lease the space are Rob Faktorow, Terry Reiley and Rosanne Richards with CBRE. Alion was represented by Cathy Delcoco and Sean Weidlein from CBRE.

Located within walking distance of the Greensboro Metro station and near Route 7, Route 123 and Greensboro Drive, The Boro will consist of a vibrant mix of office, residential, retail, entertainment and open park space.

Designed to bring people outside, the 15-acre development will offer pedestrian-friendly roadways, attractive open spaces and restaurants offering outdoor seating.

The Boro also will feature a flagship Whole Foods, which is opening a 69,000-square-foot location; and Kerasotes ShowPlace ICON Theaters, which will open a luxurious new cinema with 14 state-of-the-art screens and upscale dining options. Both are anticipated to debut in late summer or early fall.
