Howard Hospital Foundation’s New Jim Rouse Visionary Society Honors Donors

10/9/18

Howard Hospital Foundation, which provides philanthropic support to Howard County General Hospital, established the Jim Rouse Visionary Society recognizing donors who have demonstrated a commitment to the health and wellness of Howard County by giving $1 million or more to support the hospital’s efforts.

“The Jim Rouse Visionary Society at Howard County General Hospital consists of our most generous, forward-thinking donors whose transformational philanthropy has enabled the hospital to continue growing and delivering the promise of health care in Howard County,” said hospital President Steve Snelgrove.

Howard Hospital Foundation inducted inaugural members into the Jim Rouse Visionary Society during an event at The Turn House restaurant in Columbia in September. The society’s inaugural members are:

  • Dr. Kay Y. Ota-Berman and Dr. Sanford A. Berman
  • The Bolduc Family Foundation
  • Lundy Family Foundation
  • The Horizon Foundation
  • Howard County General Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary
  • Howard County government
  • The Rouse Company Foundation
  • W.R. Grace Foundation

The Jim Rouse Visionary Society’s namesake, Jim Rouse, established Columbia in the 1960s followed by the Columbia Medical Plan in 1969. The Columbia Medical Plan was a prepaid voluntary health insurance plan for Columbia residents that emphasized preventive medicine. Four years later, Howard County General Hospital was founded in 1973 as a 59-bed short-term care center.

The Jim Rouse Visionary Society is the Howard Hospital Foundation’s third giving society. The foundation’s Leadership Society recognizes donors who have committed $100,000 or more to Howard County General Hospital, and the Legacy Society recognizes donors who have designated the hospital as a beneficiary in their will, trust, life insurance or other retirement account.

Howard Hospital Foundation provides philanthropic support to Howard County General Hospital: A Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Through the generosity of many donors, the foundation helps Howard County General Hospital respond to the health care needs of the growing community, fostering world-class medical care and wellness services in a convenient, local setting.
