Tech Council of Maryland Announces Winners of 2009 CIO&CTO Live! Awards

Brand New Category Added: IT Product of the Year

ROCKVILLE, MD -- The Tech Council of Maryland's (TCM) MdTech Division announced the winners of the 2009 CIO&CTO Live! Awards, before a sell-out crowd of more than 400 IT professionals at the Fourth Annual Mid-Atlantic CIO&CTO Live! Awards dinner Tuesday night, November 10, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC.

The Fourth Annual Mid-Atlantic CIO&CTO Live! Awards Ceremony was the biggest yet, bringing together the region's leading CIOs, CTOs, VPs of IT and those who serve them, under one roof at one time. The event was also the debut of the new TCM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of TCM.

"The CIO&CTO Live! Awards event has set the standard for IT events in the industry," said Rick Harris, Executive Director of the MdTech Division of TCM. "It's where CIOs, CTOs, VPs of IT and others go to celebrate annually. It's all about IT, all night."

David Kline, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Discovery Communications, was named the Commercial IT Executive of the Year. Mr. Kline initiated a new IT Matrix that demonstrated the company's commitment to innovation and business technology and also reduced the IT budget by 35 percent. He helped stabilize the technology within the organization by re-branding, completing a global reorganization, and introduced a run vs. project budgeting approach that balanced best practices within each cost center.

The General Services Administration's (GSA) Chief Information Officer Casey Coleman won for Government Sector IT Executive of the Year. Ms. Coleman leads the IT, policy and information assurance for the GSA in diverse competencies including cloud computing, Web 2.0, enterprise architecture and open source software. Ms. Coleman's initiatives have greatly increased the effectiveness and efficiency of GSA's IT program.

TCM awarded the honor of Association/Non-Profit IT Executive of the Year to Judith Wood, Chief Information Officer and Vice President of IT at the University of Baltimore. Ms. Wood transformed her Office of Technology Services into a customer-friendly environment and model of efficiency. She managed an upgrade of HR/SA Version 8 to Version 9 without any external technology support. The project was finished on time, under budget and reduced customization by 40 percent.

A first-time award for IT Product of the Year was given to ManageRight software from TeleBright Software Corporation. The software holds the promise of energy efficiency for buildings and industrial processes. In addition, the energy component of ManageRight assists the U.S. Federal Government in their efforts to improve the environment and assure that newly installed systems are performing at promised success levels.
