Shoshana S. Cardin School A Step Closer To New Campus
Sale of Land to Cardin Approved by Board of The Associated
Baltimore, MD -- The Shoshana S. Cardin School announced a major step toward a new, permanent location for their upper school community following yesterday's approval by the board of directors of The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore on the sale of 55 acres at the former Rosewood Center in Owings Mills to the Cardin School.
"It has always been a long term vision to find a permanent home that offered a unique learning environment for a growing student population," said Founder Shoshana S. Cardin. "This property allows that, and more."
The first phase for the Cardin School will include renovations and additions to the existing Kanner Building at Rosewood Lane near Garrison Forest Road. Beginning immediately, the Cardin School will embark on a feasibility study to determine that the property including the grounds and existing building meets the conditions needed for use as a school. The study will be complete by February 2010, and plans are being formulated by the Cardin School to host a special ceremony to commemorate the start of renovation and construction of the Kanner Building in early February. It is anticipated that the new facility will be ready in time for the start of the 2010 academic year.
The Cardin School, a non-denominational independent high school, has been serving students at its current location on Park Heights Avenue since its founding in 2003. Graduates of the Cardin School have been accepted at prestigious colleges and universities including Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Johns Hopkins University, Vanderbilt University and more. Students have also participated in competitive internship programs at the Applied Physics Lab at Johns Hopkins University and the Goddard Space Flight Center at NASA.
"The sale of the Rosewood property to the Cardin School is a wonderful opportunity for this community high school to develop roots in the popular and growing Owings Mills corridor. THE ASSOCIATED is proud to have played a part in helping make their new home a reality," said Marc B. Terrill, President of THE ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore.
The Cardin School is Baltimore's only pluralistic Jewish High School.
