Children’s Guild Promotes Distinguished Anne Arundel Administrator to Executive Director of Educational Services

BALTIMORE/GLEN BURNIE/CHILLUM, Md -- The Children's Guild, which provides academic and therapeutic services for children and adolescents who are traumatized, autistic and with multiple disabilities, promoted Kelly Spanoghe to executive director of educational services. In her new position, she is responsible for the overall management and instructional programming of The Children's Guild's three nonpublic special education facilities in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area and its after-school program.

Spanoghe joined The Children's Guild as director of education for the Anne Arundel County campus in 1996. Under her leadership, the campus received the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Gold Banner School distinction seven times consecutively and the Maryland Center for Character Education School of the Year award twice. In addition, Spanoghe co-authored "Jazzing Up Instruction," a supplemental curriculum for integrating the arts. Prior to joining The Children's Guild, she taught emotionally disturbed children in Prince George's County and was an administrator of a special education program in Anne Arundel County.

Spanoghe received her master's and education specialist degrees in special education from George Washington University, and holds Maryland teaching certificates in elementary education, special education and administration. Spanoghe lives in Annapolis, Md.

The Children's Guild (www.childrensguild.org) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1953 and dedicated to serving children and adolescents who are traumatized, autistic and with multiple disabilities. Located in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties, The Children's Guild operates day schools, group homes, foster homes, a mental health center and other services for children with special needs. The Children's Guild programs are based on an organizational philosophy called Transformation Education, which emphasizes unique educational programs, stimulating environments and integrated approaches to build successful lives.
