Alzheimer’s Association To Hold Howard County Memory Walk Oct. 24

BALTIMORE - The Alzheimer's Association has selected a new location for its annual Howard County Memory Walk. Rain or shine, this year's event will occur Saturday, Oct. 24, at Columbia's Lakefront Plaza (10221 Wincopin Cir.)
"We are very excited to move the Howard County Memory Walk to Lakefront Plaza," said Amanda Sciukas, special events manager for the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter. "This venue will provide a scenic route for our participants, and bring increased visibility of the Walk and awareness of the Alzheimer's Association overall."
Registration starts at 8 a.m., when participants can enjoy light refreshments, as well as music and entertainment for the whole family. They also can decorate paper Forget-Me-Not flowers with the names or pictures of loved ones and "plant" the flowers in the "Garden of Memories."
Walking teams will have their photos taken, and walkers who raise $100 will receive a Memory Walk t-shirt. Additionally, Memory Walk rub-off tattoos and bracelets will be available for purchase.
The 2.5-mile walk will commence at 9 a.m., following an opening ceremony focusing on the mission of the Alzheimer's Association and the announcement of the top three fundraising teams and top three fundraising individuals. Everyone is welcome to stay after the walk for additional refreshments and entertainment.
Memory Walk participants are encouraged to register early, as teams (four+ members) or individually. Registration is free and available online at www.alz.org/maryland. To register by phone, call 410-561-9099 or 1-800-272-3900.
Nationally presented by Genworth Financial, Memory Walk is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research programs. Since its inception in 1989, Americans who have participated in Memory Walk have raised more than $265 million.

This October, the Alzheimer's Association will hold a total of six Memory Walks in Maryland. The Maryland walks annually raise more than $500,000 and attract more than 2,200 participants and volunteers.
