Sheela Murthy, Founder and President of the prestigious immigration practice, the Murthy Law Firm, was the featured speaker at the International Week Global Lecture Series at the Essex campus of the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) in November. Murthy, who is Honorary Chair of CCBC's Global Education Initiative, spoke about her path "from immigrant to expert," tracing her personal journey from India to Baltimore, through to the successful development of her own immigration practice, Murthy Law Firm. Murthy was also present to kick off CCBC's Challenge Grant fund drive, to support a new Center for Global Education that will be housed in the historic Hilton Mansion on CCBC's Catonsville campus. Last year, CCBC was one of six community colleges in the country that received a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Challenge Grant. The $500,000 NEH grant requires CCBC to raise an additional $1 million to fully fund the Center for Global Education. As the largest community college in Maryland, with over 70,000 students at its three campuses and extension centers, CCBC makes a substantial impact on the state's economy and industrial base. Ms. Murthy is deeply committed to CCBC's Global Education Initiative, and proud to lend a hand to make it a success.
