Room & Board Selects Parks & People Foundation for Maryland/DC Community Partnership Program


Room & Board, the national home furnishings retailer, announced the selection of the Parks & People Foundation of Baltimore as its philanthropic and volunteer Community Partner for its Elkridge, Maryland delivery center and Washington, DC store.  The announcement follows a several months-long selection process among local nonprofits involving national and local Room & Board employees.

                "We received such a great response from so many fabulous organizations," said Dawn Mansergh, Room & Board's Wellness Manager who oversees the Community Partnership Program.  "It was tough decision, but Parks & People has the programs in place to maximize the contributions of Room & Board for creating positive impact in the community."

Room & Board's Community Partnership Program award includes a grant of $50,000 and a commitment of significant volunteer time over a two-year period.  "We are honored to be selected for this partnership," said Parks & People President & CEO Jackie Carrera.  "In addition to the financial support, the eagerness of Room & Board staff to roll up their sleeves and work beside us really increases Parks & People's ability to provide high-quality youth programs and greening services throughout Baltimore." 

Room & Board, which opened its DC store and distribution center in 2010, holds community involvement as an organizational core principle in all of its locations.  "At Room & Board, we believe that building long-term relationships with Community Partners makes the most sense and make our work more rewarding," said Mansergh.

"The support of companies such as Room & Board, and their active employees' volunteerism, adds value to Parks & People's programs," said Carrera, "We anticipate being able to see the visible impact of Room & Board's support for years to come.
