Cardiovascular Institute and Stroke Center at Saint Agnes Hospital Earn Numerous Awards Recognizing Premier Service and Performance
The Cardiovascular Institute and Stroke Center at Saint Agnes Hospital have been recognized with a number of recently-announced national awards, demonstrating the hospital’s commitment to performance, quality and patient outcomes.
The American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry – GWTG (Get With The Guidelines), has presented Saint Agnes Hospital with a Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2012, recognizing its commitment and success in implementing higher standards of care for heart attack patients. Presented to only 164 hospitals nationwide, the award signifies adherence with treatment guidelines in the ACTION Registry – GWTG, with a performance standard of 90 percent or higher, for eight consecutive quarters.
A second award was presented to the hospital’s Cardiovascular Institute from the American Heart Association, recognizing cardiac interventional receiving centers in Maryland for ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) services. Saint Agnes earned a 2012 Bronze Award for maintaining a rate of 85 percent or higher for adherence to STEMI Receiving Center performance achievement indicators and a rate of 75 percent or higher for measures related to the continued improvement of quality patient care. STEMI describes the type of heart attack that occurs when a coronary artery becomes suddenly blocked by a blood clot, causing the heart muscle to die.
Additionally, Saint Agnes’ Primary Stroke Center earned a 2012 Gold Plus Award from the American Heart Association for demonstrating a rate of at least 85 percent on all performance achievement measures and 75 percent or higher on all quality indicators for stroke services, over a period of 24 months. Saint Agnes has been recognized as a leader in the delivery of quality care for stroke patients and those with cardiovascular conditions for over 30 years, when it opened the first chest pain emergency center in the world.
“These awards affirm that Saint Agnes Hospital is recognized as a premier provider for patients who require cardiovascular care and treatment,” said Adrian Long, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Office at Saint Agnes Hospital. “We take performance and quality indicators very seriously, and these recognitions demonstrate our commitment to providing a program that is not only comprehensive from a service standpoint, but that also is structured and managed to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients.”
