Grand Central Avenue Opens To Vehicular Traffic From Interstate 795 Exit To Painters Mill Road At Metro Centre At Owings Mills
Motorists can view Phase I residential, retail and office space, as well as access the six-story public library and college building
Grand Central Avenue, the primary road constructed within Metro Centre at Owings Mills, is now open and fully operational and extends from the first Interstate 795 exit to the intersection at Painters Mill Road. Motorists can also access the Transit-Oriented Development from Painters Mill Road by turning onto Grand Central Avenue directly to the structured parking garage or onto northbound I-795.
This new access allows vehicular traffic past the two five-story Metro Crossing buildings under construction, containing 56,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and 232 market-rate apartment homes on the upper four floors. Both projects are expected to be delivered in March and April. The Avenue also provides a direct connection point to the six-story building slated to house a new branch of the Baltimore County Public Library, as well as an expanded location for the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). This combination-use project is also scheduled to open in March.
Owings Mills Transit, LLC, the project developer, is also constructing a new four-story, 200,000 square foot Class “A” office building fronting Grand Central Avenue that will be delivered in mid-2013.
Two traffic circles have been engineered into the development site plan of Metro Centre at Owings Mills to allow for easy transfer of vehicular circulation through the TOD. Additional infrastructure improvements scheduled for the TOD include the final completion of Grand Junction Lane and the construction of Waverly Lane.
Metro Centre at Owings Mills will support more than 1.2 million square feet of Class “A” office space; 300,000 square feet of complementary retail space and restaurant space; 1700 residential units; educational facilities totaling 120,000 square feet and a hospitality component offering up to 250 rooms. David S. Brown Enterprises, LTD is the site manager.
