Esophageal Cancer Action Network Elects Jeannette M. Mills to Board of Directors
Baltimore, Md. - Jeannette M. Mills, Vice President of Customer Operations and Chief Customer Officer for Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Esophageal Cancer Action Network (ECAN). The mission of this Baltimore-based national nonprofit organization is to save lives by increasing awareness about the link between Heartburn and Cancer, promoting early detection, and supporting advances in medical research.
"Esophageal Cancer can have a devastating effect, not only on the people afflicted with the disease, but also on the families and friends who fight the battle with them," Mills explains. "Like so many others, my family has personally experienced the life-altering impact of esophageal cancer. However, I remain encouraged that the very valuable work of ECAN will help prevent others from being stricken with or succumbing to this horrible disease." Her husband, David Mills, lost his battle with Esophageal Cancer in 2009.
Mills has worked at BGE for 23 years. As Chief Customer Officer and Vice President of Customer Operations, she functions as executive-level management, responsible for the overall processes, systems, and planning that support internal and external customer interfaces. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). In 2006, she received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Loyola University.
In 2009, Mills was named one of Maryland's Top100 Women and received the Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) Pioneer Award. Savoy Magazine recognized her in 2008 as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America for her dedication to work and commitment to the community. The Baltimore Business Journal selected her as a"40 under 40" in 2006.
Mills brings her business expertise and leadership skills to the ECAN board of directors, which is comprised of top physicians, business leaders, and families that have been touched by Esophageal Cancer. ECAN is committed to tackling this devastating disease head on.
