CNF Investments-backed Speek Raises $2.6 Million

Speek Inc. has closed a $2.6 million equity offering, raising the amount from 40 investors, according to an amended SEC filing.

Lead investors in this Series-A round, according to Crunchbase, included CNF Investments, of Bethesda, Md., Mountain View, Calif.-based 500 Startups, Washington-based Middleland Capital  and Edward Norton, movie personality and cofounder at CrowdRise.

Ashburn, Va.-based Speek has previously raised $2.9 million from four rounds of funding. Investors include Washington-based NextGen Angels, Fortify Ventures and K Street Capital; and Virginia-based Valhalla Partners, Militello Capital, CIT GAP Funds and Wonky Ventures.

Speek provides Web-based conference calling services to its clients using a personal or business link instead of a phone number and PIN. It was cofounded in 2011 by Danny Boice and John Bracken.

Boice serves as the president of the company, while Bracken serves as the CEO. Prior to Speek, Bracken worked as a business development executive at AOL.
