Bowie & Jensen's Matt Hjortsberg Named to Maryland Super Lawyers Top 100 List

Bowie & Jensen, a leading business law firm in Towson, Maryland, is pleased to announce that nine lawyers from the firm have been named 2013 Maryland Super Lawyers and Rising Stars, including Matthew Hjortsberg, Managing Partner of the firm. Mr. Hjortsberg was also recognized as part of the Top 100 Maryland Super Lawyers. His practice is concentrated on contract disputes and construction litigation as well as claims arising out of business break-ups. Mr. Hjortsberg regularly handles bid protests, payment bond claims, construction defect claims, mechanic's lien claims, and other construction related disputes. His experience in this area ranges from home improvement cases to disputes arising out of the construction of major commercial and government facilities. He has tried cases in state and federal courts and before the American Arbitration Association. His notable cases include construction claims involving Ronald Reagan Airport, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), Canton Towers and several other Baltimore east-side development projects. In his general commercial litigation practice, Mr. Hjortsberg has successfully defended a local publicly-traded company in a suit alleging violations of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act. He also successfully defended a client in a substantial breach of contract claim concerning a claim for broker commissions arising out of a series of complex business transactions between manufacturing companies. Mr. Hjortsberg has lectured frequently on electronic discovery issues and has served as the chairperson for MICPEL's electronic discovery program. As part of his construction litigation practice, he has also taught seminars on various construction law issues. He has also appeared on National Public Radio to provide insight on the impact of weather on construction project scheduling. Mr. Hjortsberg was the co-author in conjunction with the Honorable Paul W. Grimm of the treatise, Fundamentals of Trial Evidence: State and Federal. Mr. Hjortsberg joined the board of directors of the Maryland chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in 2008 and was named the Chapter's President in 2010. He also serves as a member of the board of directors for the Maryland Law School Alumni Association. In 2008, he spent a week in Biloxi Mississippi providing volunteer legal services to victims of Hurricane Katrina, and he continues to take cases as a specially-admitted attorney in Mississippi to provide legal services through its volunteer lawyers project. He also provides volunteer legal services to the citizens of Maryland through the Baltimore County Legal Aid office.
