D.C. metro-based employment law group looks to help workers who have been furloughed
The Spiggle Law Firm announced today it is offering a free consultation throughout the month of January to all federal workers who have been furloughed during the partial government shutdown. The firm, which focuses on workplace law and frequently works with federal employees on protecting their rights in the workplace, has offices in Arlington, Va., Washington, D.C., and Bethesda, Md., right at the center of the federal workforce.
“A lot of people know that something isn’t right in their workplace but delay taking action because they aren’t aware of their legal rights and this includes many federal workers,” said Tom Spiggle, founder of the Spiggle Law Firm and a former federal prosecutor. “And the shutdown can be a very confusing time for many government workers who likely have a lot of questions and concerns about the current situation.”
The consultations, which can be done in person, over the phone, or by video, not only cover the partial shutdown, but also work-related issues from wrongful termination; sexual harassment; discrimination based on race, gender, or other issues; whistleblower status and workplace investigations; and retaliation for reporting misconduct.
Hundreds of thousands of employees of the departments of Commerce, Housing and Urban Development, NASA and the National Park Service, among other agencies, have been furloughed due to the partial government shutdown which started in late December. Others in critical jobs in the Department of Homeland Security, the State Department and other key agencies are working without pay.
Since its founding in 2009, the Spiggle Law Firm expanded in 2018, adding two attorneys with years of experience representing federal workers, Rob Porter and Joanne Dekker, and published an e-book, “What Every Federal Employee Needs to Know to Win Her Employment Case,” available for free on the firm’s website.
