Orioles first baseman Chris Davis didn't play May 20. The Boston Red Sox started a left-hander, Eduardo Rodriguez, against whom Davis was 5-for-27 (.185) with 14 strikeouts. During the Orioles' previous two games, the first baseman had struck out in his last six at-bats.
Manager Buck Showalter started a lineup with all right-handed hitters, leaving Davis to watch.
Davis has struck out 60 times in 41 games, and he is on pace to strike out a major-league record 229 times this season.
