Cross Street Partners, a vertically integrated real estate company exclusively focused on re-building communities by creating vibrant urban mixed-use neighborhoods, announced today that it has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 CREW Beacon Awards’ Community Impact Award for its revitalization of Southwest Baltimore’s Lion Brothers Company Building.

Every other year, CREWBaltimore, an organization that promotes the business interests and professional advancement of women in all disciplines of the commercial real estate industry,

recognizes and celebrates the outstanding contributions and achievements of individuals in the Baltimore metropolitan commercial real estate industry with its signature Beacon Awards.

The Community Impact Award honors a commercial real estate professional or team that played a pivotal role in a real estate project that was completed or achieved a significant measurable milestone in the last 24 months. The award reflects a project that has a significant and measurable positive impact on the community. Real estate projects have the power to transform and revitalize a community, often beyond the boundaries of the project.

The redevelopment of the Lion Brothers Building has made a significant impact in the southwest Baltimore-Hollins Roundhouse community, transforming a vacant, former factory building into a thriving community asset.

“We are honored to have been named a finalist for the Community Impact Award,” said Theresa Stegman, Development Director at Cross Street Partners. “Being a finalist is validation of our mission to revive iconic but forgotten buildings in Baltimore and turn them into economic hubs that support the surrounding neighborhood. The Lion Brothers Building is already having an impact and is attracting a broad spectrum of people who use it for office space, food production, retail and co-working space. It is one of the most successful mixed-use spaces in the city.”

The building is 100% leased, with tenants including the University of Maryland Baltimore County’s (UMBC) Intermedia and Digital Arts (IMDA) graduate program, Baltimore Community Lending, Enterprise Homes, Inc., Culinary Architecture Cafe, Spring Garden Lending, Neopol Savory Smokery, and the headquarters for the University of Maryland's Graduate Research Innovation District (GRID), along with several of UM’s start-up companies. The project has encouraged additional investment in the community and created over 70 constructions jobs. Once construction is complete on the final two tenant spaces in March, the building will bring total foot traffic of 200 employees and students to the once blighted street corner.

The Beacon Awards Program will be held May 3, 2018, at The Belvedere Hotel from 6:00PM-9:00PM. For more information: https://crewbaltimore.org/events/special-events/2018-05-03-beacon-awards
