Former Mississippi State center Schnider Herard announced on Twitter Jan. 20 that he’s transferring to Maryland. The news was first reported by 24/7 Sports.
Herard, who left Mississippi State in late December, will be eligible for the second semester next year, per 24/7 Sports. Herard, listed by the Bulldogs at 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds, will fill a need in the Terps’ frontcourt once he’s eligible.
Maryland senior centers Michal Cekovsky and Sean Obi will move on after this year, while sophomore Justin Jackson and freshman Bruno Fernando could choose to go pro after this season. With junior Ivan Bender and redshirt freshman Joshua Tomaic the only big men sure to return next year – and Jalen Smith (Mount St. Joseph) the only big man in the Terps’ incoming recruiting class – that left Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon looking for potential solutions for next year’s frontcourt.
