John Harbaugh: Next Defensive Coordinator Will Be Someone Familiar With Ravens' System

By Bo Smolka, PRESSBOX

Expect a familiar face to succeed Dean Pees as the Ravens' defensive coordinator.

The Ravens have not yet hired anyone to replace Pees, 68, who retired the day after the Ravens' season ended, but at head coach John Harbaugh's season-ending news conference Jan. 4, he stressed that the new defensive coordinator would be someone familiar with the Ravens' system.

"I'm a believer in this system," Harbaugh said. "This system has been something that's been developed for a long period of time, and we have worked really hard every single year to make it better. ... I'm not going to bring somebody in from the outside and flip the whole system around, do something completely different. We're going to build on everything we've done. So, it'll be somebody who's been involved in this system before, for sure, somebody either inside or somebody who's outside who has been in this system before."
