Springwell Senior Living Hosts Topping-Off Ceremony for New Homestead Independent Living Building

1/4/18

Springwell Senior Living recently hosted a Topping-Off ceremony for The Homestead, its new Independent Living Community scheduled to open summer 2018. The Topping-Off ceremony has been a longstanding tradition in large construction projects, symbolizing the completion of the “hardest” part of the construction, or the placing of the beam at the building’s highest point.

Springwell started construction in April on the 142,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Independent Living building, which features 99 new residences. The Homestead project is managed by Wohlsen Construction, who placed an evergreen tree and a United States flag on top of the building to mark the halfway point of the project.

“We are really proud of our team at Wohlsen Construction and their progress with the Homestead,” said Phil Golden, Director and Principal of Springwell. “We are halfway through the construction process, and this building will soon be home to more than 100 residents. It is exciting to think that in another six months we will welcome everyone back for the grand opening.”

Dignitaries in attendance at the Topping-Off ceremony included Baltimore City Councilman Isaac “Yitzy” Schliefer; Natasha Ramberg representing the Mayor’s Office; Senior Liaison Fred Gilliam for President of the Baltimore City Council Jack Young; and Community Representative Norma Bosley for Delegate Dana Stein.

The 99 new residences at The Homestead will bring the total number of independent living, assisted living and memory care units at Springwell to 235. Springwell is a rental community and not a buy-in, which means residents do not have to pay a large entrance fee to move in.

Located on 15 acres in the heart of historic Mt. Washington overlooking Northwest Park, The Homestead will offer Springwell’s incomparable hospitality and services in a village-like atmosphere. Monthly fees will include a meal program; daily planned activities; scheduled transportation; housekeeping; utilities; wellness checks; and more. Springwell’s new strategic partnership with LifeBridge Health, a major healthcare system, offers residents who choose to participate easier access to medical specialists, wellness programs and healthcare facilities throughout Baltimore City and County.

The new units range in size from a one-bedroom, one bath to a two-bedroom, two-bath corner apartment, and most have balconies or patios. In addition, there are many gracious common areas including the Library, Courtyard, Pub, Living Room, Dining Room and Education Center.
