Smith, Gildea & Schmidt, LLC (SGS) is pleased to announce that partner Michael DeHaven has been selected to Super Lawyers magazine for the field of law for 2018. DeHaven has previously been named to the Super Lawyers list from 2015-2017.
Super Lawyers magazine rates the service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The patented selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. The objective is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel across the country.
A partner of SGS, DeHaven is an attorney with over 25 years of litigation experience. His practice primarily focuses on family law matters, including divorce, child custody disputes, domestic violence protective order petitions, and negotiation and drafting of marital separation and property settlement agreements. DeHaven helps his clients make every effort to decide what is in the best interest of the child and how to equitably distribute their property. With an understanding of the emotional and financial impact that protracted litigation can have on a client, he always tries to negotiate a fair and amicable resolution. DeHaven also has an active criminal defense practice.
“I’m honored to work with Michael and thrilled he is continually selected to the Super Lawyers list,” said David Gildea, Founder and Managing Partner of SGS, a regional law firm based in Towson. “He is committed to helping our clients peacefully settle disputes that are often traumatic in nature and advocates for them in court when they need it most. He is fair and understanding in all family matters.”
DeHaven is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association (Family & Juvenile Law Section), the Baltimore County Bar Association and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association. He is active in several community organizations, including the Martin J. Smith Foundation, which awards scholarships to local high school students, as a member of the Board of Directors; the Carroll Manor Recreation Council, where he has coached and served as Commissioner of the soccer and basketball programs and has been on the baseball Board of Directors; the Greater Jacksonville Association; and Immaculate Conception Parish.
