The Maryland football team announced that 22 players signed with the program Dec. 20, the first day of the early signing period that runs until Dec. 22. Players who don't sign this week will wait until Feb. 7, when the next signing period opens. The Terps likely will add more players, but the vast majority of the class signed Dec. 20. Here are five observations on head coach DJ Durkin's 2018 recruiting class:
1. Durkin was beaming while talking to the media Dec. 20.
The last time Durkin spoke to Maryland reporters was after a 66-3 loss to Penn State Nov. 25. Durkin spoke about the Terps' lackluster effort level against the Nittany Lions, opened up about how his team "slowly just deteriorated" throughout the season and lamented the injuries at quarterback.
