With New Perspective, UMBC's Jairus Lyles Has Been Better Than Ever

If UMBC men's basketball guard Jairus Lyles had his way, he'd probably never take a break from basketball.

But sometimes when circumstances force a player to miss a few games, the perspective gained while watching from the sidelines can help that player -- and ultimately his team -- reach new heights.

While it was difficult for Lyles when a concussion forced the Retrievers' go-to player to miss three games in late November and early December, the opportunity to observe from the bench seems to have served everyone well, as the 6-foot-2 graduate student and two-time All-America East selection has come back with a vengeance, averaging 25.0 points per game during the past four contests.
