Ravens defensive coordinator Dean Pees said that in hindsight, the Ravens should have had rookie cornerback Marlon Humphrey covering Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, who burned Brandon Carr for three deep pass plays, including a 34-yarder that set up the game-winning field goal during the Steelers 39-38 win against the Ravens Dec. 10.
But Pees stressed there was plenty of blame to go around for a defense that was torched for 486 net passing yards by Ben Roethlisberger -- the most ever allowed in a game by the Ravens. Roethlisberger completed 44 passes -- another franchise record for a Ravens opponent in 66 attempts for 506 yards.
"We all had our issues," Pees said at his weekly news conference Dec. 14. "It was a little bit of everybody. We just didn't play well. We didn't play fundamentally well, all the way across the board. That goes on all of us. … We just did not play our best game. We gave up too many big plays and just didn't do a good job all around, coaching or playing."
