Claro M. Pio Roda Named VP of Finance/CFO at Howard County General Hospital

Claro M. Pio Roda, DrPH, has been named vice president of finance/chief financial officer for Howard County General Hospital, effective Jan. 2, 2018. In his new role, Pio Roda will be responsible for guiding and overseeing the hospital’s financial activities that include financial reporting and analysis, capital and operating budgeting, strategic and financial planning and generally managing the financial position of the hospital.

Pio Roda is currently serving as senior director of finance for Johns Hopkins Medicine, a position he held since 2015. An experienced leader, Pio Roda has been with Johns Hopkins Medicine for 23 years, during which time he has held a number of key leadership positions. Pio Roda served as the interim administrator of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine for two years. He was the director of finance for the department from 2005 to 2014 and was simultaneously the director of finance for the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science. Pio Roda also helped lead the creation of Johns Hopkins Medicine International and Johns Hopkins Singapore and helped develop Johns Hopkins Medicine’s international growth strategy as its first finance leader.

Pio Roda received a master of health science in health finance and management and a doctor of public health in health leadership and management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he is an associate faculty member and teaches financial management.

Pio Roda is replacing Jim Young, who has served as the senior vice president of finance/CFO since 2004, and who is stepping down from that role to take on other responsibilities at the hospital.
