Douglas will Represent and Advocate for Adults with Disabilities through MVLS’ Adult Public Guardianship Program
Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), the largest provider of pro bono civil legal services to low-income Marylanders, today announced the addition of Terry Douglas as staff attorney for its Adult Public Guardianship Program. In her role, Ms. Douglas will be responsible for representing low-income disabled adults at guardianship proceedings in Baltimore City and Baltimore County Circuit Courts and Adult Public Guardianship Review Board (APGRB) hearings in these jurisdictions. MVLS’ Adult Public Guardianship Program is supported through funding from the Maryland Department of Human Services, Legal Services Program.
“We are delighted Terry is joining MVLS to provide civil legal services to vulnerable adults,” said Bonnie Sullivan, executive director of Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service. “Terry’s extensive experience in elder law and adult guardianship coupled with her work with veterans will be a tremendous asset to our Adult Guardianship Program and the Marylanders it serves.”
An attorney for more than 20 years, Ms. Douglas has experience providing legal advice and counsel to older adults, military veterans and people with disabilities. Prior to joining MVLS, she had a private practice in Anne Arundel County. Currently, she is a council member of the Maryland State Bar Association’s (MSBA) Elder Law & Disability Rights section, as well as a member of the MSBA’s Judicial Appointments Committee. Ms. Douglas served in the U.S. Coast Guard where she was awarded a Defense Meritorious Service Medal and promoted to Commander. She earned her J.D. at the University of Minnesota Law School.
