Pompeian Celebrates 30% Increase in American Job Growth

11/8/17

Pompeian, Inc., America's largest national brand of olive oil, will celebrate its commitment to job creation in the U.S. – marking a 30% increase in local jobs and the investment of more than $3 million in Baltimore based manufacturing per year since 2013 – with local dignitaries and Walmart representatives today at 10 a.m., as part of Walmart's 10-year commitment to buy an additional $250 billion in products supporting American jobs. Pompeian joins Walmart in their initiative to advance local manufacturing across the U.S.

Data from Boston Consulting Group estimates that Walmart's initiative will create 1 million new American jobs, including direct manufacturing job growth of approximately 250,000 and indirect job growth of approximately 750,000 in the support and service sectors.

"We are proud to celebrate Walmart's commitment to building opportunity in Baltimore," said Catherine E. Pugh, Mayor of Baltimore. "Their investment in Pompeian is also an investment in the revival of local manufacturing and our growing workforce. We're grateful to be a part of this expansion because when companies support and grow operations here, it encourages the kind of economic development that helps our communities and residents flourish."

The event includes a tour of the new Pompeian Quality Control and Research & Development Center, a best-in-class facility that opened in September to ensure the quality, purity and full traceability of Pompeian products. The new center is one example of Pompeian's investment in local job growth, as the introduction of the $2 million facility allowed the company's specialized Quality Control and Research & Development Team to grow by 20%.

"We are thankful for the significant impact Walmart has had on Pompeian that allows us to expand our contributions to the economic development of our community," said David Bensadoun, CEO, Pompeian. "We've been creating jobs in the United States for more than a century since establishing our headquarters in Baltimore in 1906 and proudly support Walmart's commitment to U.S. manufacturing."

"Our customers have told us that second to price, where products are made influences their purchase decisions," said Cindi Marsiglio, vice president, U.S. manufacturing. "We are focused on buying great quality products that create jobs in communities across the U.S. It makes sense for our customers, our communities and our company."

Pompeian began importing olive oil in bulk in 1906, then blending and bottling it fresh daily in the U.S., and is the only national brand of olive oil to do so. Unlike many olive oils sold in the U.S., Pompeian is a blend of olive oils produced in various regions rather than from a single locale or company-owned grove. Since each year's olive crop varies, Pompeian can select the season's best olive oils and then blend them to the same quality standards and consistent taste, year after year.
