Terps Defensive Coordinator Andy Buh Backs His Struggling Unit

10/20/17

The numbers for Maryland's defense have headed in the wrong direction in recent weeks after a promising start at Texas Sept. 2, when the unit was only responsible for 20 of the Longhorns' points in a surprising 51-41 victory.

Now, the Terps are last in the Big Ten in scoring defense at 36.5 points per game, last in the 14-team conference in total defense at 439 yards per game, 12th in rushing defense, last in pass defense, 10th in sacks and 13th in third-down defense. Maryland (3-3 overall, 1-2 in the Big Ten) allowed a combined 1,115 yards of offense during losses at Ohio State Oct. 7 and to Northwestern Oct. 14.

It won't get any easier traveling to No. 5 Wisconsin Oct. 21 -- the Badgers have the conference's top rushing offense behind freshman running back Jonathan Taylor (986 yards, 10 touchdowns) -- but Terps defensive coordinator Andy Buh backed his unit during his weekly news conference Oct. 18.
