South Baltimore organization supporting veterans opens doors to broader community by offering Maryland State Court’s 12-hour program for DUI/DWI offenders
The Baltimore Station, a residential treatment program supporting veterans and others transitioning from homelessness and addiction to self-sufficiency, is now offering Maryland State-certified instruction for DUI/DWI offenders required to take the 12-Hour Alcohol Education Program (AEP). Located in Federal Hill, The Baltimore Station is currently holding classes on Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons, providing greater accessibility to those needing to fulfill their court-appointed requirements, especially residents in the South Baltimore area whose mobility options may be limited. The Baltimore Station is one of only a handful of locations downtown offering the State’s program.
The Baltimore Station’s expansion of services to include AEP classes comes on the heels of receiving national recognition by the prestigious accrediting organization CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). In August, it earned distinction as a high-quality licensed provider of specialized addiction treatment, long-term therapeutic programming and intensive outpatient care services. Seeking ways to further increase the value of its dedicated staff and vast experience to better serve its residents, veterans and the greater Baltimore community, The Baltimore Station’s decision to add AEP classes to their offering was a natural next step.
“We are always looking for ways to make the transition out of addiction or other harmful behaviors easier to manage and more successful over the long run,” said John Friedel, executive director at The Baltimore Station. “Our veterans and other residents already trust our staff to provide them the guidance they need to improve their lives, and the new Alcohol Education Program allows us to extend our help to many other people in the Baltimore community who want to turn their lives around.”
The Baltimore Station’s AEP is a six -week course offered via six two-hour classes. Classes are held on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm or Saturdays at 12:00 pm at The Baltimore Station’s West Street facility on 140 W. West Street, Baltimore, MD 21230. The cost is $300 if paid in full at the first class, or $360 if paid thereafter.
