FULTON, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sonatype, the leader in software supply chain automation, today announced that Bill Karpovich has been named SVP of strategy and corporate development. Reporting to Sonatype CEO Wayne Jackson, Bill will lead portfolio evolution, strategic partnering, acquisitions, and new growth initiatives worldwide.

“The market is accelerating,” said Wayne Jackson, CEO of Sonatype. “The Equifax breach is a wake-up call for CXOs globally. Traditional approaches to application and network security simply don’t cut it. Enterprises need a new approach that manages risk at the speed of modern software development. Bill is a proven innovator with deep expertise in enterprise DevOps and success growing cloud businesses worldwide. He joins at the perfect time to help us expand our portfolio and scale our operations globally.”

Karpovich joins Sonatype from IBM, where he most recently served as General Manager within IBM’s Cloud and Watson Platform division, leading product strategy and execution for IBM’s cloud platform offerings (PaaS & IaaS), branded IBM Bluemix. In this role, Karpovich led record revenue growth while improving margins, expanding IBM’s cloud presence worldwide, creating ground-breaking partnerships, and modernizing IBM’s product development discipline. Prior to IBM, Karpovich was founder and CEO of Zenoss, Inc., an enterprise IT operations monitoring and analytics innovator that reached #42 in the Inc. 500. In 2011, Karpovich was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the state of Maryland. Karpovich began his career as a software architect with Accenture and was an executive with Maryland-based cloud pioneers Digex, Inc. and USinternetworking, Inc.

“Software-driven innovation is not only transforming industries and fueling growth, it is also exposing serious risks,” said Karpovich. “The market is in dire need of a new approach to software security that can keep pace with modern app development, and that’s exactly what Sonatype has to offer. Businesses – and their customers – can gain the benefits of speed without losing control and confidence. We have a tremendous opportunity ahead of us.
