Noise in the Basement, a local alt-rock band featuring Venable attorneys Andrew Price and Damon Wright, along with special guests Venable attorneys Bri Rizzo and Steve Freeland, won the annual Law Rocks DC battle of the bands for the second year in a row. The group was again the top fundraiser among all bands, raising nearly $25,000 in donations, ticket sales, and sponsorships, of which almost $5,000 will be donated to Venable's pro bono client, Together We Bake, and some of which will go to hurricane relief.
Venable has raised nearly $15,000 for Together We Bake in the last two years of this event, with total fundraising approaching $50,000, a portion of which supports Law Rocks and its nonprofit efforts. Performing at the legendary 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, the band's set list included alt-rock covers from the last four decades after starting with Paid In Full featuring Mr. Wright, and also included Seven Nation Army featuring Ms. Rizzo and Prince's Let's Go Crazy featuring Mr. Price and Mr. Freeland. The band won based on two factors – it placed first in audience vote and tickets/sponsorship and second in judges' vote and donations.
Law Rocks hosts a series of battle of the band fundraising concerts in cities across the globe, starring local legal professionals. It provides an opportunity for the legal community to bring attention and funding to deserving local nonprofits. For the 2016 international tour, Noise in the Basement's performance was recognized by Law Rocks as the #1 moment of the tour. Last spring, the band represented Venable and Together We Bake at Law Rocks Los Angeles at the world-famous Whisky a Go Go.
