Startups will compete for a $25,000 cash award at the 3rd annual event on September 28th

Betamore has announced the six companies that will be competing for the $25,000 grand prize at Beta City’s Venture Capital Pitch Day at 3 p.m. on September 28. The third annual live competition is just the beginning of the Build Baltimore two-day event, located at City Garage in Port Covington.

With nearly 100 applications submitted, the six finalists were selected after multiple rounds of in-depth internal and external screening. Contestants will present their company to Mayor Catherine Pugh, venture capitalists, senior business and community leaders and entrepreneurs from leading companies in the greater Baltimore area. The influential panel will select the winner of the $25,000 cash prize, sponsored by Brown Advisory.

“Each year the pitch competition continues to grow, and every year we are more impressed by the number and quality of applicants,” said Jen Meyer, CEO of Betamore. “The pitch competition is one of the most anticipated aspects of Beta City. It not only brings the entrepreneurs and their ideas to the forefront, but it also connects them directly with successful business leaders, venture and angel investors directly at the event.”

Finalists will also have the opportunity to engage with business advisors to prepare for the competition. All of the leading business professionals from last year are excited to return, includingJason Tagler of Camden Partners and CEOPitchCoach.com, Lynda Katz Wilner of Successfully Speaking and Henry Mortimer of Mortimer Communications.

Demo companies will have a table to showcase their businesses and receive live feedback from more than 1,000 attendees including Beta City VIPs, beginning at 5:30 p.m. after the pitch competition concludes.

To be inclusive of all companies hoping to participate, Betamore launched an idea portal, which allowed all organizations to get involved with Build Betamore by contributing programming initiatives. Participants include SoBotanical, Section1, Galley, Workbench, and Safe Alternatives.
