Terps' Shane Cockerille 'Playing Faster' In Second Year At Linebacker

For the first time in his Maryland career, senior Shane Cockerille has settled into a position.

A former quarterback and fullback, Cockerille won the starting inside linebacker position next to Jermaine Carter Jr. during fall camp in 2016 and went on to start the first 12 games that season and record 108 tackles. He won the job again in fall camp last month and has 14 tackles during Maryland's 2-0 start, including seven in a 63-17 victory against Towson Sept. 9.

"I think just having that year under my belt and a lot more knowledge of the game," Cockerille said Sept. 9 of the improvements he's made from his first year at linebacker. "I'm playing faster, playing a lot more physical because I know where I'm going, I know what I'm looking at, I know what keys to read, so it's allowed me to get to the ball a lot faster."
