Greg Raymond, MS, MBA, RN, has been named vice president of nursing and patient care services (PCS) at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). In his expanded role, Raymond is responsible for PCS clinical practice and professional development, as well as behavioral health services across both the University and Midtown campuses. In addition, he will continue to oversee the neuroscience units at the University Campus.
After serving in the United States Navy Nuclear Power Program, Raymond began his career at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a surgical acute nurse and then as a critical care nurse, followed by a position as a perioperative nurse at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He came to UMMC in 2006 as the nurse manager of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). In 2010, he was promoted to director of nursing for neuroscience and behavioral health; and in 2012, the PCS clinical practice and professional development department was added to his responsibility.
In addition to his progressive leadership roles, Raymond has successfully led many teams for UMMC, including serving as the co-chair of UMNursing, a collaborative academic-practice partnership between UMMC and the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON). His leadership also extends to University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) efforts and he chairs the Clinical Education and Professional Development Council for UMMS.
In 2015, Raymond was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan as a board member to the Maryland State Board of Nursing. In 2017, Raymond was invited to serve as an advisory board member of the Nurse Support Program (NSP) of the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC). Raymond is a member of the Nurse Leader Institute Steering Committee and a member-at-large of the UMSON Alumni Association.
Raymond earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Health Services Leadership and Management, and a Teaching Certificate in Nursing and Health Professions at UMSON. He is currently enrolled in UMSON’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program. In addition, Raymond earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Baltimore Robert G. Merrick School of Business and completed the Wharton Nurse Leaders Program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a 1st Year Fellow in the Regulatory Excellence Fellowship program of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and serves as a Faculty Associate at UMSON.

Active in the community, Raymond has served as the chair and co-chair of the UMMC Heart and Stroke Walk and serves as an ordained ruling elder in his church. He is a member of the Maryland Organization of Nurse Leaders, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honors Society.
