The Ravens have placed cornerback Maurice Canady on injured reserve (knee) and re-signed wide receiver Chris Matthews, tweaking the 53-man roster in a largely expected move.
By keeping Canady on the original 53-man roster, the cornerback can be designated to return later in the season; anyone placed on injured reserve before the roster was set is automatically out for the entire season.
Canady, a sixth-round draft pick in 2016 out of Virginia, had emerged during OTAs and minicamp as a possible starter at slot cornerback after Tavon Young suffered a season-ending knee injury. But then Canady went down with a knee injury, leaving veteran Lardarius Webb as the starting slot corner, with undrafted rookie Jaylen Hill also in the mix.
