Dylan Bundy had been away from the Orioles on bereavement leave for the past four days mourning the loss of his grandmother.
But Bundy returned to the team Aug. 29 and had his best performance in his two seasons with the Orioles. Allowing only a bunt single in the fourth inning to Seattle's Kyle Seager, the right-hander set a career-high with 12 strikeouts and threw his first complete game and shutout during the Orioles' 4-0 win against the Mariners before 13,736 at Oriole Park.
Working on five days rest, Bundy walked two batters in the third, then allowed three baserunners during the last six innings. Besides Seager's single, Guillermo Heredia reached on shortstop Tim Beckham's second error of the game with one out in the eighth, and Bundy hit Robinson Cano with a pitch leading off the ninth.
