InfoZen supports NASA’s successful delivery of one of the Internet’s largest events
InfoZen, the IT modernization and leading cloud enterprise service provider that supports planning, architecting, integration, implementation and operations for NASA.gov, today announced its support of the eclipse livestream and websites during the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse resulting in record online viewership data for NASA TV.
The event drew record levels of livestream traffic to NASA.gov and social media platforms—including Facebook, UStream, YouTube, Periscope and Twitch—for a total of more than 40 million views. InfoZen, the prime contractor for WESTprime, streamed traffic to approximately half of the viewers on Eclipse Live.
NASA.gov’s Eclipse Live page peaked at about three million simultaneous views—several times larger than reported streaming numbers for recent Super Bowls. More than 2.6 petabytes of data were transferred during the NASA livestream within three hours, roughly equivalent to more information than is held by all academic libraries in the United States.
NASA estimated more than 40 million views of the livestream. The traffic for NASA.gov and eclipse2017.govtopped 90 million page views, which was more than seven times the previous high for NASA.
InfoZen, NASA and an ecosystem of partners, worked for months to plan, test, integrate and launch an IT architecture capable of seamlessly supporting this massive, global demand for the livestream broadcast.

The NASA TV livestream expanded the number of people able to share in the excitement as top viewing areas were outside of the path of totality. States in direct line of the eclipse accounted for approximately two percent of the livestream audience.
