Terps Ready To Rev Up Running Game Again

For last year's Maryland football team, its best offensive games usually came courtesy of explosive plays in the running game. The Terps had weapons such as Ty Johnson, Lorenzo Harrison and Tyrrell Pigrome who could go the distance at any time and athletic offensive linemen who could block in space to spring ball-carriers to long touchdowns.

Johnson, now a junior, and sophomores Harrison and Pigrome -- who is likely on track to be the starting quarterback -- are all back. So, too, is much of their offensive line: junior center Brendan Moore and junior right tackle Damian Prince started all 13 games last year, while junior left tackle Derwin Gray and sophomore right guard Terrance Davis saw plenty of run as well. The only new face projected to be part of the Terps' starting offensive line is junior left guard Sean Christie.

Maryland produced 199.5 rushing yards per game last year, fourth in the Big Ten. It was the first time the Terps topped 2,500 rushing yards in a season since 2002. The challenge for Maryland will be to take advantage of the pieces they have returning to improve upon last year's output.
