R. Thomas Crawford Appointed Chair of UB Foundation

The University of Baltimore Foundation has announced the appointment of a new chair as well as one new member to its board. The new member, who is an alumnus of the University of Baltimore, will participate in fundraising and other activities designed to provide financial support to the University. The board chair serves a two-year appointment, while the newly appointed member holds a three-year term, renewable two more times for a total of nine years of service. The foundation is a designated 501c3, first established in 1969. In addition to assisting in the financial well-being of the institution, the board also provides leadership, oversight and guidance to the UB administration in advancing the mission of the University of Baltimore.

Mid-Atlantic Market President of BBVA Compass R. Thomas Crawford, M.B.A. '91, has been named chair of the board. Crawford leads the bank's efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region to bring commercial banking, treasury management, capital markets, commercial real estate, international, equipment leasing, and institutional investment services to corporations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Previously he was administrative vice president & group manager at M&T. In addition to his chairmanship on the UBF Board, Crawford also serves on the Board of Directors for the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts and is a member of the Chairman's Council & Steering Committee for Light City Baltimore. Crawford received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1984 and his M.B.A. from the University of Baltimore in 1991.

Chief Legal Officer for Chesapeake Employers Insurance Company Carmine D'Alessandro, J.D. '93, has been named to the Foundation's board. D'Alessandro oversees the legal, special investigations, subrogation, premium audit and compliance functions for the organization. He also acts as adviser to the claims department and assists with legislative and regulatory matters. Prior to his current title, D'Alessandro was vice president of legal for Chesapeake Employers. D'Alessandro joined the company in July 1994 as an attorney. He was later promoted to director of the legal department, followed by assistant vice president of claims, where his responsibilities included the management of the company's private claims; and later assistant vice president and vice president of legal services. He received his bachelor's degree from George Washington University in 1990 and his J.D. degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1993. D'Alessandro is a member of the Maryland Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, Maryland Defense Counsel and the Baltimore County Bar Association.

The University of Baltimore is a member of the University System of Maryland and comprises the College of Public Affairs, the Merrick School of Business, the UB School of Law and the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences.
