Entering the Orioles' game against the Oakland Athletics Aug. 21, left-hander Wade Miley had just one quality start in his previous 14. But he delivered against Oakland, pitching into the seventh inning and allowing two runs during the Orioles' 7-3 win before 16,020 at Oriole Park.
Miley had a good statistical start to his season. On June 1, after he pitched seven innings and gave up one run on five hits during a win against Boston, Miley had a 2.82 ERA.
But by July 25 -- after 10 consecutive outings without a quality start -- Miley's ERA had ballooned nearly three runs a game to 5.69. It's come down somewhat since then to 5.11.
