Let me work through this one, please.
As you know, the Baltimore Ravens opened training camp with a strange week in which conversation was dominated by a player (free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick) who is neither on the team nor has ever been on the team, and the Ravens faced public criticism for how the situation was handled.
Some of that criticism was wildly emotional from one side or the other. Some was a more subtle confusion about how the situation was handled. On July 27, head coach John Harbaugh went to the podium after practice and without provocation addressed the possibility of adding Kaepernick directly, speaking in a tone that suggested perhaps the team was in advanced talks with the former 49er. ("I wouldn't rule it out at all," is the direct phrase he used.)
