Join Floura Teeter Around the Camp Fire for PARK(ing) Day 2017

8/15/17

On Friday, September 15th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Floura Teeter Landscape Architects will join artists, designers and citizens around the world in the annual worldwide movement known as PARK(ing) Day.

PARK(ing) Day is an international movement created to call attention to the need for more green and open space in urban environments. Floura Teeter is joining forces with other Park Plaza building tenants, Dooby’s and Studio 7 the Salon, to convert metered spots near the corner of N. Charles and Madison Streets into a nature-themed, camp-inspired curbside park featuring a camp fire, arts and crafts, and camp games such as Jenga and Cornhole.

This is Floura Teeter’s ninth consecutive year participating in PARK(ing) Day. Firm president Joan Floura says “our staff looks forward to creating a new installation for PARK(ing) Day every year. We always try to out-do our previous designs and create an interactive environment for the day while bringing awareness to the need for more open space in the City.” The goal for this year’s installation is to evoke fond memories of camping while learning about the Maryland State Park System, which celebrated 100 years in 2016. Previous Floura Teeter installations have emphasized the need for more playground spaces for children, safer bike routes and the value of urban gardening and green roofs.

PARK(ing) Day began in 2005 when art and design studio Rebar converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco to challenge people to rethink the way streets are used and reinforce the need for broad-based changes to urban infrastructure. Since then, it has grown to include more than 950 “PARK” installations in 162 cities, 35 countries and on six continents.
