$47.5 Million Development Project Underway for New Charlestown Skilled Nursing/Memory Care Building

8/1/17

Construction is underway for a $47.5 million development of Wilton Overlook, a new skilled nursing/memory care building on the Charlestown (https://www.ericksonliving.com/charlestown ) campus. This building will have192 units and provide person-centered care for 207 residents. It will be completed in three phases with phase one expected to be finished in April 2019.

Construction of Wilton Overlook indicates that Charlestown is moving ahead with its multi-phase, multi-year plan to expand and renovate its existing assisted living, memory care and nursing care residences, along with amenity spaces.

“This much anticipated project allows us to offer an increased array of person-centered services that helps those we serve achieve optimum health during the normal aging process,” said Charlestown Executive Director Clara Parker. “Our personalized care plans, holistic perspective, compassionate caregivers, and comfortable accommodations reflect a level of individualized service and care that is truly distinct in the marketplace.”

The exterior design of Wilton Overlook reflects the architecture of the historic Charlestown campus and the interior design provides a residential feel and focuses on providing a range of activity spaces with large amounts of natural light. The configuration of the common areas maximizes the delivery of person-centered care and encourages resident engagement and independence.

Well-designed memory care residences will meet the specialized needs of residents by providing a stimulating, nurturing and amenity-rich environment. Suites will feature private bedrooms and full baths, and be located in close proximity to a dining area.   Apartment living space, which is 300-720 square feet, exceeds industry standards.  The companion unit is 720 square feet.  The studio apartments are 300-320 square feet.

Common areas in Wilton Overlook will be available for use by all continuing care residents. They will include multi-purpose, activity and programming spaces, a theater, living rooms, a salon, conference rooms, a games lounge, a library, and a card game room. A courtyard will also be part of the building.

This new 171,000-square-foot Wilton Overlook complements last November’s opening of Caton Woods, a new assisted living building that had a $28.5 million development project cost.  Caton Woods, a 128,150-square-foot building, can accommodate 116 residents and today is home to 109.

Charlestown’s continuing care neighborhood received a Five-Star rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and this year was rated one of the “Best Nursing Care Facilities” by U.S. News and World Report.

About 2,100 residents live in 17 independent living residential buildings on Charlestown's 110-acre campus. Charlestown is managed by Erickson Living.
