Lee & Associates Chesapeake Region has brokered a lease with Crooked Crab Brewing Company for 6100 square feet of space within 8251 Telegraph Road in the Odenton section of Anne Arundel County. The craft brewer intends to initiate operations in the 60,000 square foot building by year-end and ramp up production to more than 3500 barrels annually, initially brewing six different varieties of beer. Allan Riorda, Kate Jordan and Marley Welsh of Lee & Associates represented the landlord, Route 32 Business Park, LLC in this transaction.

Founded by long-time friends Earl Holman, Alex Josephs, Dan Messeca and Andrew Wilkes in 2015, Crooked Crab Brewing Company will initially produce Crooked Cream Ale, Haze for Days NE Pale Ale, Mason Hefeweizen, Motley Zu Coffee Stout, Old Line IPA and Siren’s Song Double IPA. The beers feature flavor profiles that range from a typical pale ale summer brew to a stout with roasty and chocolate tones and a deep aroma.

“Locating a production facility in the Anne Arundel County region was our first choice due to the lack of existing beer operations in this area,” explained Dan Messeca. “In addition to developing great products, our goal is to be extremely inclusive and invite participation from the community in special events, product development and other aspects of our operations. We consider it a priority to create a company and a brand that people in Anne Arundel can rally around.”

Constructed in 2006, the single-story warehouse/industrial building in positioned within the Telegraph Commerce Center, just off MD Route 32. Fronting Telegraph Road, the asset is surrounded by a surface parking lot that can accommodate approximately 150 spaces.

“This building perfectly matched the requirements of Crooked Crab given the availability of space in an open design, the loading and dock doors and the proximity to MD Route 32 which will facilitate the logistics operations of the company,” stated Marley Welsh. “With plans to install a tap room, consumers will easily be able to access the building, given its visibility from Telegraph Road.”

Over the past year, Welsh has also been involved in the leasing process for Hysteria Brewing and Lost Ark Distillery, which both leased space within her listing at 9570 Berger Road in Columbia; Push Brewing Company, a subsidiary of Frisco Tap House, which leased space at her listing at 6655 Dobbin Road in Columbia, as well as handling the site selection process for Chesepiooc Real Ale Brewery and Cult Classic Brewing Company.

“Marylanders love their beer and this is reflected in the surge of new craft brewers that continue to emerge in the region,” Welsh added. “We have been able to offer the right real estate solutions to these companies, as buildings with large, open-space designs located near major highways remain plentiful. The founders of Crooked Crab Brewing Company satisfy the stereotype of the entrepreneur brewer with unbridled passion and love for this industry.”
