Betamore and Sagamore Ventures Expand Beta City to Two-Day “Build Baltimore” Initiative

7/18/17

Build Baltimore will include Beta City and Garage Fest, bringing together the community for two days of programming spanning entrepreneurship + technology, inventing + building, and health + wellness.

Betamore and Sagamore Ventures announced the expansion of Beta City to “Build Baltimore,” a two-day initiative bringing together Baltimore-area change makers to shine a light on those shaping the future of our city. Hosted at City Garage in Port Covington, Build Baltimore will include Beta City on September 28, and Garage Fest on September 30.

In its third year, Beta City will kick off Build Baltimore by recognizing and applauding leaders, makers and innovators in Baltimore with a full day of pitches, startup demos and a celebration of the entrepreneurship community. Last year’s event attracted more than 1,000 guests, where local start-ups, TopBox and Tissue Analytics, earned bragging rights and $25,000 in cash $50,000 in prizes.

“It is encouraging to see the enthusiasm and passion that so many entrepreneurs are bringing to our city. We are thrilled to return this year with even more to offer,” said Betamore’s CEO, Jen Meyer. “Since our inaugural event in 2015, we have had an outpouring of support from local businesses, entrepreneurs and the tech community who continue to drive the growth of Betamore and the Baltimore community.”

The Foundery will host Garage Fest on the second day of Build Baltimore. Garage Fest is a family-friendly day focused on the Baltimore maker community and their passion projects. Attendees will navigate through an interactive experience in Making, including robots, music, drones, art, health + wellness and more.

“Garage Fest is not just for people who already consider themselves Makers,” said Jason Hardebeck, CEO of the Foundery. “It will appeal to anyone who’s ever been curious about how something is made or wants to learn how to build something.”

“We see Build Baltimore as an extension of this region’s commitment to working together. The initiative brings people together, establishes connections, and ultimately drives growth within our local businesses and community,” added Meyer. ”We are incredibly grateful to all of our partners, who continue to make this growing event a success.”
