Clyde’s Restaurant Group And The Howard Hughes Corporation To Open New Live Music Venue In Downtown Columbia

7/5/17

Clyde’s Restaurant Group and The Howard Hughes Corporation® announced plans today to open a live music venue in Downtown Columbia, Maryland. Overlooking Lake Kittamaqundi, the yet-to-be-named space will be adjacent to Clyde’s of Columbia.

In late 2011, Clyde’s Restaurant Group opened The Hamilton, their first hybrid music and dining concept located in the vibrant Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, DC. “We were energized by the popularity of The Hamilton,” says Tom Meyer, President of Clyde’s Restaurant Group. “Howard County has a thriving arts and culture community, but an absence of intimate venues to hear live music year-round. The Lakefront in Columbia seemed like a perfect spot.”

Clyde’s will soon close their casual-Italian concept, The Tomato Palace, and begin converting the restaurant into a new live music and event space that will showcase the talent and passion of local and visiting musicians from around the world. Guests will enjoy performances in the comfort of a state-of-the-art engineered 4,600-square-foot listening room. With cutting-edge technology, sound, and lighting, the venue will also serve as an exciting space for private events and meetings.

“A live music and dining combination will be a welcome addition to Columbia’s iconic Lakefront,” said John DeWolf, Executive Vice President, The Howard Hughes Corporation. “Nightlife activities and dining experiences of the caliber presented by Clyde’s Restaurant Group will increase the vitality of Downtown Columbia, drawing local residents and others from the region.”

Clyde’s Restaurant Group’sdecision to open a live music venue in Downtown Columbia is the latest in the recent announcements surrounding the redevelopment of the 391-acre center of Columbia by The Howard Hughes Corporation. At full build-out, the Downtown Columbia revitalization will include 14 million square feet of mixed-use development comprised of 4.3 million square feet of commercial office space, 1.25 million square feet of street retail, 6,244 residential units and 640 hotel rooms. To date, 10 percent of the redevelopment plan is under construction or complete.

The new music venue is projected to open by year end 2017.
