Even though Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy was having the worst offensive season of his major league career before landing on the 10-day disabled list, the club badly misses the veteran.
Hardy, who suffered a broken bone in his right wrist June 18, is batting .211 with three homers and 21 RBIs. His .248 OBP and .308 slugging percentage equal a .556 OPS
However, with no one in the Orioles' system who can play adequate defense at shortstop in addition to providing at least some offense, Hardy still gives the Orioles the best chance to win, offensively and defensively. His defensive WAR is a positive .4, and he's still a threat to hit an occasional home run.
